Tools For Content Creation And How To Begin

There are different tools for content creation that anyone who wants to become a content creator needs.

Fortunately, you really don’t need all the gadgets – Digital camera, tripod, laptop, zoom lens – that you see some content creators with.

You do not also need to spend so much money to begin.

Here are some beginner’s tools that will help you start off a content creation career.

Tools For Content Creation

1.  A Smartphone

Your smartphone has over the years evolved to what it is now – a machine for wealth creation.

Yes! Beyond just phone calls, messaging and instant chats, you can turn your smartphone to a money making machine.

Basically, a smartphone has become one of the tools for content creation that someone who wants to start on a low budget needs.

Therefore, it is important that you get a smartphone that has a good capacity when it comes to camera and storage.

For instance, I made this post you are reading on my phone; on the go.

With your smartphone you can also create contents on the go.

With the right camera setting you will be able to take good pictures. All you need to do is to optimise the picture for the web.

2.  Data

This is one of the very essential tools for content creation that you need. Without data, you will have nothing to do with the internet.

For this reasons, you need finance for data purchase. The amount of data you have will determine how much content you are able to access and also offer.

Work out a plan on how you are to get your data. There should not be a time that you are out of internet data.

It is very important. It is the blood that your content needs to come alive on the internet.

3.  Apps

The next set of tools you need for content creation on a phone are apps.

Applications have become necessary because they reduce complexity of content creation on platforms that are originally for computer screens.

The screen of your phone is small and will never give you the same feel as a computer.

With apps you can comfortably use WordPress on a phone. For Android users, WordPress for Android is a good app to get for content creation. That is if you have a WordPress website. It is also available for iOS users.

If you are not using WordPress, check for the blogging platform you are using in the app store, they should have an app.

Most importantly, it is impossible to make your content interesting to readers without images.

As a result, you need image editing apps for editing of your images.

Thumbnails are amazing when it comes to drawing attention to an article.

As such, an app like Canva is good to add to your phone if you are desirous of creating contents with your phone.

Interestingly, Canva does not just allow you edit your images, it also provides you images you can edit and use.

4.  Free Blogging Platform

For you to have a content on the internet, you need a platform.

It is advisable that you begin your blog with a free blogging platform.

Not many persons know that a website like LindaIkeja, a popular Nigerian blog, started off on a free blogging platform.

Free blogging platforms offer you an opportunity to test your ideas and their acceptability.

You need to know how much people would love to read your content, before you begin to spend money.

Free blogging platforms like WordPress, Blogger by Google, Wix are some popular blogging platforms that you can explore.

Also, some social networks like Facebook also have article platforms where you can try out your contents and see how much people love them.

Basically, before you choose a platform, do a little research to know how beneficial that platform will be for the kind of content you want to create.

While free platforms are great, remember that you will at some point need to have your own domain name and hosting plan which will cost money.

5.  Zoom Lens

You may not need this as a beginner.

But there are some pictures you may need to take and you will need some form of distance to achieve it.

In some places in Nigeria for instance, people become aggressive when they see you with a phone trying to make a picture.

Have you tried to make pictures of train-roof-passengers in Lagos? They will beat you to stupor if they see you.

For such interesting, yet delicate content, you need a zoom lens to catch the action from a location no one will notice.

6.  Tripod

This is one of the important tools for content creation you should get. It may not be immediate, but you should have it as you grow.

There is a reason for this.

A tripod is a great tool that ensure stability when you take pictures or record videos.

Unstable arms can make a picture blurry. A blurry image is poor optimisation for your content.

The better the quality of your image, the higher it ranks and the rest of your content leverages it.

For instance, zooming in on a subject in a video while holding the phone in your hand will result in a shaky video.

But with a tripod you will get a more stable shot.

However, if you cannot afford a tripod as a beginner, you can start off without one. Just learn how to keep your hands stable.

7.  Language Mastery

This is not a tool per say, but you need it.

Your write-up must be free of grammatical errors as much as possible.

You must master the grammar of the language you are using. Because you may be targeting global audience, I will recommend that you ensure your English is on point. Bad grammar is often a put off for everyone.

How To Begin

As said earlier, the first thing to do is to research on the niche you want to cover.

You will benchmark other websites that are already doing what you want to start. Yes! There is hardly any niche that has no content on it.

If you are first to begin content in that line, you are lucky, but you will work harder than the person who has people to copy and tweak.

Basically, when I say copy, I do not mean you will go and copy someone’s content.

All I mean is that you will look at their style, tweak it and then you will have your unique way of presenting your content.

Another thing is to consider how much you have to spend for data. This has been mentioned earlier.

Do a research and find a cheaper data that you can sustain as you begin.

Once you begin content creation, your readers become your responsibility. They must be fed with contents.

Not giving them something to read as often as possible is like telling them there is no need to visit the website again.
