Why is this skill necessary?
In 2018, I got a certification on mobile journalism. Basically, the course focused on creating stories, from shooting to editing and then to dissemination, all on a mobile phone.
We did not just create videos, we made professional videos. Ever since then, I have been using that skill to earn a living.
I had the intention of starting off as one who provides videography, website development and search engine optimisation services.
Few years down the line, I am out of 9 to 5, and all I do is create contents, develop websites, optimise websites contents and teach people how to also do these things.

You must have noticed that there is an increase in the amount of video contents that flood your timeline or feeds.

In fact, your smartphone is a video machine, but your confidence in your phone’s ability to create a great video begins when you take your money to the market to buy a phone.
Before You Buy A Phone
A few things that you must consider before you pay for a phone is the camera capacity and the storage capacity.
Go for phone with higher camera quality – (MP) or 4k categories.

These help you optimise the quality of your video.
You need space to save your videos when they are shot at high quality. You must be sure of what the phone you are buying offers you.
Get Other Tools
You need to get other tools that are necessary for a good video quality. No one loves shaky videos. Creating a video with a phone without a tripod, will mean that videos could shake.
As a result, get a tripod, get a microphone for mobile phone then get a lens where necessary.
Also invest in some lighting system.
Production Proper
For shooting of a good video, I will recommend that you take this short free course. It will help you understand a lot about video recording.
After taking the course, apply the knowledge to a smartphone when you are recording a video.
Editing Videos
The next step will be editing of the videos that you have created on your smartphones.
Editing makes creating videos with a phone interesting.
You can add other elements, transitions, texts, picture-in-picture, edit colour and do a lot more when editing.
It is important that you know the right apps that you can use for editing.
Fortunately, there are free apps that you can use and they will give you amazing video quality.

How To Earn From Creating Videos With A Phone
While I often recommend that money should not be the focus when you begin, you should have it on your mind too.
The reason is that creating videos take time and time is life. And you should not spend your life just having fun.
Therefore, you should also target that at some point you should earn from what you do.
However, I must state that earning may not come immediately, as you need some form of validation.
1. Make Free Videos
Unfortunately, we will not throw this away, despite the fact that we are talking about earning.
These free videos will validate that you know the art.
Create some free videos for yourself and some persons who you are around you that you can offer the service for free.
This worked for me when I started. I made several videos for free for different persons. I still do till now.
These people are likely to refer you to persons who will love the video. Remember that some persons have large followership, yet lack the skill.
Offer them the service and their followers will see how good you are. Trust me, some will come for your service.
2. Set Up Social Network Pages
Once you begin your video production, one thing you must not fail to do is; setting up social network pages.
Set up YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest pages and consistently share your work there.
You may focus on few of these networks.
All your videos should go to your social network platforms.
This will increase your reach and make you grow your influence.
3. Make Abstract Videos
One of the very things you must add to the contents you produce is making videos that will make people say: Wow! How did he/she do that?
These kind of videos draw people to your page and also make them follow you.
Once your followership continues to grow, then you are ready to begin to make some money.
4. Target To Hit Thresholds
Most social networks have thresholds that you must hit before you begin to earn from their platforms.
Some have number of subscribers or followers and then watch hours that you must also reach.
Find out what these thresholds are and set strategies to meet them.
Once you meet them, you will monetise your channel.
5. Open A Domiciliary Account
In some cases, you need a domiciliary account for you to be able to receive your earnings.
While you can earn in your country’s currency, having a domiciliary account means you will earn in dollar denomination.
For instance, AdSense pays in dollar if you have a domiciliary account.
Having this account prepares you ahead of when you will begin to earn.
Most banks open a domiciliary account for you without an initial foreign currency deposit.
6. Earn From Direct Service Provision
You can also earn from directly negotiating with people who want your video production service.
You tell them how much it costs to get you to produce a video for them and then you go ahead and do that.
Make sure that you will deliver your video at appropriate time. Don’t kill your business by taking up so much jobs more than you can deliver.
Also, you may want to begin with something less than the industry prevailing price, since you are just starting off your videography career.
7. Teach People And Earn From Trainings
Again, this is direct earning process from the video you produce. I have also earned a lot of money from this.
People who see your work and want to learn how that is done, may want you to teach them.
Set the cost of your training and teach them.
Never think that teaching people will mean you are gradually pushing yourself out of business.
Well, as you produce videos and grow, begin to think of areas you can diversify into, like movies and music video production.
This way, you stay relevant.
8. Place Adverts In Your Videos
In most of the free videos you should produce, you can source for adverts from some companies and place those adverts in your video.
These ads will earn you money.
This works well if you have large followership or produce videos for someone with a large followership.
